REGULATIONS THAT GOVERN THE CLASSIFICATION
OF THE CANADIAN MARES
OBJECT
1. To make evident the mares of higher quality which have the conformation and development required and recognized as being good mares for breeding.
ADMINISTRATION
2. The classification work shall be administered by a special committee, appointed by the Executive Committee of the Association, and shall be executed by an inspector approved by the said Executive Committee.
CLASSIFICATION COMMITTEE
3. Composed of five members. This committee shall prepare the regulations, look after their application, also the execution of classification work.
SECRETARYSHIP
4. The Secretary of the Canadian Horse Breeders Association shall be ipso facto secretary of the classification committee; he shall receive the applications for classification, the inspector's statements and shall also keep up all necessary correspondence with the Canadian National Live Stock Records in order that the classification result for each mare shall be entered on the certificate of registration. He shall keep in the office of the Association, a copy of all the documents regarding this work and forward a copy of the inspector's report to the owner of each mare classified.
INSPECTOR
5. He shall execute the work concerning the classification of mares in accordance with the regulations adopted for this purpose and shall use the scale of points for Canadian Horse as ground of appreciation, and shall deposit a statement in the secretary's office.
ELIGIBILITY
6. Shall be eligible for classification all mares registered in the Canadian Horse Herd Book, at least four years of age and exempt of hereditary defects.
APPLICATION FOR CLASSIFICATION
7. The breeders who wish to have their mares classified shall apply for same by letter addressed to the Secretary of the Association.
FEES
8. All applications for classification and re-classification shall be forwarded with the fee of $2.00 for each mare.
RE-CLASSIFICATION
9. All mares shall be re-classified at the request of the owner providing one year has lapsed since the previous classification and that the owner pay the required fees. In re-classifying a mare, the inspector may grant it more points; if he thinks it is proper to do so, but he cannot reduce the number of points already granted at time of the previous classification.
MODE OF CLASSIFICATION
10. The classification system shall comprise the three following classes: Class X--
Class XX-- Class XXX.
CLASS X
11. To be eligible in Class X, a mare shall:
(a) Score 85% of the scale of points of the Canadian Horse breed.
(b) Must not be under four years of age.
(C) Weigh at least 1100 lbs. when healthy flesh, that is, without excess fat.
(d) Measure 15.2 (62 inches) height to withers.
(e) Measure 73 inches in girth.
(f) Measure 7.5 in shank.
CLASS XX
12. To be eligible in Class XX, a mare shall:
(a) Score 85% of the scale of points of the bred.
(b) Must not be under four years of age.
(c) Weigh at least 1250 lbs. when healthy flesh, that is, without excess fat.
(d) Measure 15.3 (63 inches) height to withers.
(e) Measure 75 inches in girth.
(f) Measure 8 inches in shank.
CLASS XXX
13. To be eligible in Class XXX, a mare must be acceptable in Class XX and must be the dam of at least three offsprings which have been classified as follows: either females classified X or XX or males classified B at three years of age or A at four years of age or over.
CLASSIFICATION REPORT
14. This report shall be in triplicate on forms prepared for this purpose. The inspector shall enter the measurements of each mare, also the number of points allotted for each part of the animal. A copy of the report shall be kept in the records of the Association, one copy shall be forwarded to the Canadian national Live Stock Records and the other copy shall be given to the owner of each mare.
