Henryville Prince #3813 chestnut stallion, f 1963
(Prince Black x Henryville Josette)

Henryville Prince was bred by Bernard Lamoreux, Henryville, QC. He was a son of Prince Black by Beauport de Cap Rouge (pictured left)  Henryville Prince sired thirty registered offspring and was second only to Thomas de Viger as the most prolific of the eight designated line sires. Unfortunately, many of his progeny were from "souche mares", meaning that their colts had to be gelded and only their daughters could breed on.

While Henryville Prince himself (pictured left), was not an inbred stallion, his purebred sons and daughters from non-souche mares were highly inbred from matings with his full sisters, Henryville Puce, Henryville Rosee, and Henryville Finette. It is said that M Lamoreux purposely inbred his horses as he believed that this produced progeny with docile temperaments, a trait the Henryville line is consistently promoted for today.

Henryville Prince's most prolific sons are La Gorgendiere Prince Aubin (30 foals) Henryville Elite ( 24), Henryville Prince Loupin (19), Henryville Grand-Maitre (18), and Henryville Major (15).  Elite and Prince Loupin were from Puce, Grand-Maitre from Rosee, and Major from Finette. While Henryville Prince is fairly well-represented in modern pedigrees through female descended progeny, only Elite, Prince Loupin, and Grand-Maitre live on in direct sire-line. Many of the Henryville horses are very "typey" and exhibit the characteristics of the old French Canadian horse as portrayed by the writers and artists of the 1800s.
